They could smell the heat in the air.
A warm wave flowing over them all,
and through their now fevered hair.
Trees swayed in the slight breeze.
Happy to allow and stave off,
the all too soon biting freeze.
This winter to come respite.
A last chance for celebration,
to a warm and friendship light.
Windows were let open to share.
With the food and laughs all gathered,
then left to hope, chance and dare.
One last giggle and mirth to be.
Though fleeting its always chosen,
still fading, still warmed and free.
It was Summer extended.
Their blissful Indian Summer,
with hope and joy beloved.
